What is PA Testing?
P.A. Testing or PATesting (Portable Appliance Testing) is the in-service repeat of
the manufacturers' safety tests of electrical equipment. P.A. Testing, as it applies
to the workplace, covers virtually any appliance that plugs into a socket,
including hand tools, I.T. equipment, kitchen equipment, vacuum cleaners,
even extension leads.
What should be PA Tested?
Any appliance that plugs into a socket should be tested. This includes hand tools,
IT equipment, kitchen equipment, hoovers, extension leads, cd players, etc. Why must our company get PA Tested? The breakdown of electrical appliances will be dangerous and could even be fatal. Without testing you run the risk of death-or-injury, fire, prosecution, private legal action or even invalidating your commercial insurance policy.
Electrical equipment ranges from small office or home appliances, to a 400kv overhead power cable. The Power Service offers a service in Portable Appliance Testing (or PAT testing) - our PAT testing and visual inspection services are mainly concerned with anything with a three-pin plug and/or using 240v power (eg a PC, microwave oven or power-shower).
We employ only fully trained competent engineers, using calibrated testing equipment. The Power Service has full liability insurance.
It is vital to provide a safe electrical environment for your staff and visitors by including PAT-testing - failure to ensure safety can result in prosecution and carries a maximum penalty of €3 million or imprisonment for up to 2 years or both in serious cases and lesser fines and/or imprisonment are likely for failing to manage safety under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005.
